Carbon Monoxide (CO) Detectors

Update
New law in effect as of January 1, 2007. The "Carbon Monoxide Alarm Detector Act". More Information
For additional information visit: EPA or Illinois General Assembly or call the Antioch Fire Department

Just wanted to let you everyone know that our homes do not come with carbon monoxide detectors. I recently purchased models that are interchangeable with the ones that our homes have preinstalled. The ones in our homes are model 9120B (double check to ensure you have the same model) by BRK More info. The same alarm with a CO detector is the SC9120B More info. The CO alarm was very easy to install, simply twist off the old alarm, and then unplug the connector. Then attach the connector to the CO alarm and twist back on. No screws or anything, its the same base and connecter the smoke alarm has. I purchased two of them, one for the fist floor and one for the second floor near the bedrooms. They run about $40 and from the research I have done I was only able to find them on-line. I purchased them off of Hechinger.com. Even thought they took about 3 weeks to show up, it was worth it. Since they plug right in to the old connectors, they are powered by 120VAC and if the alarm sounds, it will trigger all the other alarms in the house.

"Certain Menards stores also carry the BRK smoke and carbon monoxide alarms (SC9120B). The smaller stores (Gurnee, Vernon Hills) do not carry them, but the larger stores (Fox Lake, Kenosha) do."
